The Children’s Garden sponsored by HSBC Bank offers a fun and exciting experience where kids spend time planting, playing, observing and learning in a nurturing environment. The Children’s Garden creates an immersive experience--a blend of structured and freeform exploration designed to provide children the supports they need to express their natural curiosity. Each session incorporates the Garden as a resource to support nature discovery, hands-on time in the garden, thematic activities, art, and science investigations.  Children's Garden is Monday through Thursday, 9am to 3pm, with after-care availabile until 5:30pm. Summer Children's Garden is currently only open to children entering 3rd through 5th grade in Fall 2019. This program is SOLD OUT for children entering Kgn-2nd grades. A limited number of spaces are held each session for participants granted scholarships, in all grade levels (entering Kgn-5th). Click here for more information.  SOLD OUT: Session I: The Kitchen and Beyond, July 8 through 18, $580 Non-Member / $522 Member*:  Session II: Urban Critters, July 22 through August 1, $580 Non-Member / $522 Member*  Session III: Art in the Garden, August 5 through 15, $580 Non-Member / $522 Member* Session IV: Buds and Bees, August 19 through 22, $290 Non-Member /$260 Member* After-Care: 3 to 5:30pm, $25 per day  *Member discounts apply to family-level members or above.  Session I: The Kitchen and Beyond: All about Plants and Their Uses This session is SOLD OUT for all grade levels. See directions below to be added to the waiting list.  Have a cook in the family? Campers harvest fresh garden fruits and vegetables to make tasty and healthy snacks and create their very own recipe book. Each day, participants will learn about medicinal and traditional uses of plants, and make plant-based home products like lotion and bug spray. Session II: Urban Critters This session is SOLD OUT for children entering Kgn-2nd grades. Spaces available for those entering 3rd-5th grades only. See directions below to be added to the waiting list.  Young ecologists will discover the critters who inhabit our NYC urban jungle and beyond. They search for animal tracks and homes, make a rainforest terrarium, hatch swallowtail caterpillars, and identify and search for local birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects. Session III: Art in the Garden This session is SOLD OUT for children entering Kgn-2nd grades. Spaces available for those entering 3rd-5th grades only. See directions below to be added to the waiting list.  Get creative! Artists utilize the natural world to create, discover, and design. They use rainwater to do watercolors, make recycled seed paper, use the sun’s power to make prints, and more. Campers work together to create a communal art project for the Garden.  Session IV: Buds and Bees This session is SOLD OUT for children entering Kgn-2nd grades. Spaces available for those entering 3rd-5th grades only. See directions below to be added to the waiting list.  Stop and smell the roses! Kids discover the beauty and wonder of QBG’s vast flower collection, do flower dissections, and design their own flower. They get up close and personal with the busy pollinators who keep the garden blooming. Children's Garden Frequently Asked Questions REFUND POLICY Before JUNE 1 2019, you may receive a full refund, minus a $10 processing fee. On or After JUNE 1 2019, if you need to cancel before the start of the program, QBG will refund you 50% of your order. Refunds are not issued for partial attendance, or after the program begins. No discounts may be applied after your transaction is processed. If you must cancel after registering, notify the Children's Garden at 718-886-3800 x218 or [email protected].  AFTER-CAMP CARE You may register your child for after-camp care up to ONE WEEK in advance of the date needed. Requests for care with less than a week’s notice may only be fulfilled if there are enough staff to maintain proper child-to-adult ratio.  DISCOUNTS A sibling discount of five percent is available for multiple children registered for Summer Children’s Garden and/or Junior Naturalists programs by using the code ‘SIBLING’ at checkout. Discount codes are applied when you are selecting the number of tickets for the program, by clicking the blue ‘Enter Promotional Code’ button at the top right-hand corner of the ticket selection pop-up. Discounts cannot be applied after your transaction is processed.   WAITING LIST  We encourage you to sign up on the waiting list, as spots often become available closer to the program start. QBG will notify you if a spot opens up and you will have a limited time to sign up for the program before the spot is offered to the next person.   PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) occasionally photographs or films visitors and activities on site to support our mission in promotional media and materials, including print, online, broadcast, and social media. By attending this event, you grant permission to QBG use your and your child’s likeness in perpetuity, in all forms of print and digital media used to promote, publicize, or advertise the Garden, its activities, and programs. If you do not give QBG permission to take and use your image, you may opt out of photography and videography when you register. CANCELLATIONS In the case that an event is cancelled, you will be notified via email. Children's Garden runs rain or shine. EMAIL REGISTRATION By purchasing tickets and attending QBG events, you hereby opt in to receiving communications from the Garden. QBG is a living museum, a collection of gardens for the study, culture, exhibition, and display of plants. GETTING TO QBG You will receive more information on parking and drop-off closer to the start of the program. By public transportation, take the number 7 subway line to Main Street, the Long Island Rail Road (Port Washington line) to Main Street/Flushing, or the Q44-SBS or Q20 bus. By driving, please click here for more information. PARKING Parking is available year-round during Garden open hours at the Parking Garden, located at 42-80 Crommelin Street, Flushing, NY 11355. For drop-offs of participants, you may park at the Parking Garden for free during a 20-minute interval. Please notify the attendant of your child’s participation in Children’s Garden upon arrival.
