Making the Future of Making Music Summer Camp

Experience a mixture of recording, sound design, composition and music in this one-of-a-kind week-long camp designed for middle and high schoolers. This camp is all about young artists making music with technology. Supported by the LSU Center for Computation & Technology as part of their Cultural Computing focus, this course incorporates sound engineering, music composition, and live musical performance with technology. You’ll make music with iPads, computer instruments, and each other; record, edit, and sequence sound; compose your own music; and design cinema - for the ears. No experience required in either music or technology, just an open mind and open ears. Learn to record, mix, engineer, produce, and create music and sound for the music industry, movies, video games, and more. Work on the same audio equipment the professionals use, gain knowledge from industry-experienced instructors, and develop your talent for the recording and experimental sound arts. You'll even learn how to add music and sound to video clips.   Musical topics on composition, form, and notation will be covered as groups form and hone musical performances. A concert will showcase their fixed media works as well as live performances at the conclusion of the week. Who:  This is a beginner course in computers and music, only basic computer skills are required. Rising 6th through 12th graders are welcome to attend. The course will cover the basics of music technology alongside music theory, acoustics and sound design. No prior knowledge required, but musical or computer experience will make the course even more fun. Participants must bring headphones as well as provide their own transportation and lunches.
