Family, Youth, and Teen Experience - Holmes, NY

Our modern society is so fast paced and "time" driven that it can be difficult to slow down and walk with the rhythm of the day. What would it be like if the sun were your clock, the birds your internet and the Earth, your home? The Family, Youth and Teen Experience class allows for a sense of timelessness, where families and individuals can share meaningful experiences which foster curiosity, appreciation and respect for the Earth and each other. Participants will learn survival skills in a manner similar to the way Stalking Wolf taught Tom Brown Jr. These skills include tracking, shelter building, friction fire techniques, water collection and purification, edible/medicinal and utilitarian plants, primitive cooking, bird language, and much more! One focus of the class will be the creation of a personal bow-drill kit, a friction fire method. Participants are divided into groups according to age for some activities, including adults, while other activities will be done as a group. To get our Early Bird Discount of 15% off each registration, use this code, EarlyBirdDiscount, when you register by April 1, 9pm! FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Families and children as young as 4 years old may attend our FYT program. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is plenty of parking if you drive. We also can pick you up at Patterson, NY train station. What can I bring into the event? We do not allow phones or other electronics for children. Please bring a sleeping bag and clothing for all weather. Since we do some carving of wood, we recommend a fixed blade knife, or you can buy one at our store for about $20. All food is provided.
