This adventure is scheduled in partnership with our friends at River Discovery and Idaho River Sports. Participants will have a beautiful experience paddling around the beautiful new ponds at Boise's Ester Simplot Park. Survivors Supporting Survivors is a teen support group designed for teen cancer survivors between the ages of 13-18 years old. The beauty of this group is our campers giving back to each other. As our teen participates age out of this group they are transferred into a mentoring role and come back to help facilitate these meetings. This group meets monthly to provide education, resources, support, and fun for these fragile children. As it is designed to offer an opportunity for the teens to talk about the struggles of a cancer diagnosis without becoming a counseling group. We set the table in a variety of way to help the healing process happen much faster. We guide them in real life challenges and allow them to discuss and support each other in ways you don’t see in normal life. We take this group of teens out on high ropes courses, Cooking, Etiquette, and Self Defense classes, volunteer community work, murder mystery parties, and all sort of art and music therapy sessions throughout the year. Guided conversations are planned during these events by the Program manager and volunteer social worker to help determine the topics of conversation including but not limited to self-care, nutrition and school concerns, peer pressure, and family issues. There may be topics identified by the mentors or even the teens that would be better supported by a guest speaker and in those cases we do bring in professional speakers. But most importantly it is a constant connection of love and support that these teens so desperately need. Cost: All programs come to our families at no COST
