Teen Summer Camp - Sewing 101 - Austin, TX

M-F, July 10 - 14, 9am-12:30pm COST: $250 Looking for a summer hobby for your teen? Look no further! The Cloth Pocket Studio Summer Camp series has arrived! In this week long class, students will learn how to: Operate a sewing machine Cut out and sew up a reversible tote bag Beginner quilting techniques by making a mini quilt Make a simple t-shirt using one they already own for fit NO PREREQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE! This is for complete beginners. Ages 12-17. The camp will take place over 5 days for 3.5 hours each day. There will be a one hour lunch break for students who sign up for both this class and our afternoon Accessories summer camp class from 12:30pm-1:30pm. Sewing machines can be rented for $5 for the course. It is recommended that you bring a machine if you own one so that you may learn to sew on the machine that you'll be using the most. Below is a list of supplies for each of the projects. PLEASE BE SURE TO PURCHASE THESE PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY AS IT CAN STALL THE START OF A CLASS UP TO AN HOUR. In other words, don't let your kid be that kid. ;-) SUPPLIES (those marked with * are available for sale at The Cloth Pocket at 10% off for those taking the course) -Sewing machine (one can be rented for $5 for the course) Reversible tote bag: -*3/4 yard each of two quilting cottons (broadcloth) -*All-purpose thread to match Mini-quilt: -*Four 1/4 yard cuts of quilting cottons (broadcloth) for the top (fat quarters also work) -*One fat quarter of broadcloth for the back -*One fat quarter of cotton or bamboo batting -*Cotton thread for topstitching Easy t-shirt: -*1 yard of knit fabric, PRE-WASHED -*All-purpose thread to match -T-shirt from home that your teen likes the fit of (we will not be cutting or changing the original t-shirt; we will only be using it to create the pattern for a new t-shirt) Basic tool kit: -*Fabric scissors -*Straight pins -*Seam/hem gauge -*Thread snippers -*Seam ripper -*Fabric marking pen or tailor’s chalk -*Extra sewing machine needles (size 80/12 and 90/14) -*Clear grid ruler
