2017 Spring Teen Summit - Dover, TN

The Summit is an initiative for teens/young adults in the bleeding disorders community. The 2017 Summit will take place March 31 thru April 2 at Brandon Springs Group Center in Dover, TN. Transportation will be provided from Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville for those who need it. This session is for teens/young adults ages 15-20 who have a bleeding disorder. The Summit is a weekend-long event, beginning at 5:30 pm (CST) on Friday, March 31st, with dinner, and concluding on Sunday morning before lunch (boxed lunches will be provided for all participants at time of departure). The Summit will include low ropes activities under the guidance of a skilled trainer, camp fires, camp activities (like archery, canoeing, field games, etc.), and Leading Edge program by Gutmonkey. There will also be trained medical staff on site for the duration of the weekend, including a hemophilia nurse and a pediatric hematologist from St. Jude. Participants are not required to complete any element, but will be encouraged to reach beyond their “comfort zone” in this safe and fun environment. This event is provided free of charge and includes room and board and activities throughout the weekend, thanks to our generous sponsors: Shire, HPC, First Choice Home Infusion Specialty Pharmacy, Matrix Health and a grant from the Marcy Shulman Foundation; and in conjunction with the Hemophilia Treatment Centers in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis. It is our goal to provide activities that will help you build your critical thinking, teamwork, leadership and communication skills as you transition towards independence, but we also want you to have fun and build friendships in the bleeding disorders community.
