Summer 5 Days of Knight Camp for Kids - Battle of Agincourt - Portland, OR

Kids day camp for the week of Aug 22nd through Aug. 26th Ages 7 through 12 - or first grade and up. Camp runs Monday through Thursday- 9:30am to 3:30pm Children should pack a lunch or bring money to buy food at the Subway in our parking lot. Before and after care are available for an additional fee - see below. Camp must be pre-registered. There are no refunds however arrangements can be made to transfer registration to a different child. Our program is focused on teaching historical arts connected to the martial culture of Europe in the time of the crusades and beyond to the 16th century. We teach history and real world skills related to the time and culture of Knighthood. This this course we will focus on the Battle of Agincourt.... a decisive time in history. The invasion took a muster of troops... a ship voyage... and then an overland campaign. This past year saw the Anniversary celebration of the Battle at European battle sites and museums. In addition... Learn the skills of Sword and Shield from documented historical texts Learn about European History and culture Play Medieval games Learn about heraldry and make your own shield with your own coat of arms Learn metalworking skills and make your own project. Students will learn about the Seven Knightly Virtues - Prowess, Humility, Courage, Generosity, Mercy, Temperence Children will train with lightweight sword simulators and safety gear. They will have the opportunity to handle steel replicas of the real thing and interact with real armor. All under the supervision of our instructors. REQUIRED GEAR: Students will need low traction soft soled indoor shoes which should be kept clean. They will also need a pair of good fitting light weight leather gloves. Gloves can be purchased at most good department stores.... lightweight unlined gardening gloves work well or mig welders gloves. Gloves can also be purchased at our school.... however supplies are limited at any one time.Students should bring clothes they can move in and a long sleeved shirt for fencing in. Sweatpants or yoga pants are highly suggested as your child will need to be able to move. Class size is limited to 14 students. Camp registration is $225.00 per student. BEFORE AND AFTER CARE: Before care starts at 8:00 after care ends at 5:45 Kids in before and after care are welcome to work on activities provided during the camp, play medieval and renaissance board games, play pirate munchkin, use our library or bring their own activities from home. This will be largely self-directed time with adult supervision.
