DREAMChasers Student Celebration & Fundraiser

DREAMChasers cordially invites you to our first annual DREAMChasers Fundraiser & Student Celebration! DREAMChasers provides free tutoring and mentoring for kids interested in attending a NYC Specialized High School. We help students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds ace the SHSAT!  During the school year, our students have been attending class every Friday and Saturday preparing for the SHSAT exam.  In the summer, they participated in an intensive DREAMChasers summer boot camp.  Many of our students attend class in underperforming school districts, making it difficult to compete with better access to resources.  DREAMChasers is about making sure the kids from our communities have access to a quality education.  In his famous poem “Harlem,” Langston Hughes asks “what happens to a dream deferred?”  “Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun.  Or fester like a sore – and then run?”  This program is about restoring a belief in the American Dream and empowering a new generation of DREAMChasers.   This event is being made possible by “1844,” which is an organization of black male attorneys committed to investing in each other and "pouring" into their communities.  1844 represents the year that the first African American lawyer, Macon B. Allen, was admitted to practice law in America. 1844 has chosen to commemorate its five year anniversary by investing in the next generation of doctors, engineers, and of course, lawyers.
