CRUX LGBTQ Climbing - Jacob Riis Beach Social

WHAT Despite what LOGOtv reality shows would have you believe, there is more to queer beachlife than Fire Island.  And if you've missed any of the BURN days of CRUX's summer SCRAPE & BURN programming, now's your chance! WHO This event is open to all CRUX members and anyone interested in checking us out. Bike, MTA, or ferry to Riis Beach for a day of sunbathing and frolicking in the sand and surf! Bring snacks and drinks to share, games, floatie thingies... whatever you need to have fun. Bring a book, take a nap, have that long walk on the beach... solo experiences are welcome too! WHERE We'll set up camp on the east side of the beach, south of the abandoned buildings, before the rock jetty. Cell signals are weak once you get out there, so text who you need before you get on the sand. Parking per vehicle costs $10 cash to the National Park Service. (The National Parks & Federal Recreation Center annual pass doesn't work here unfortunately.) Raincheck date: Saturday July 27 HOW A CRUX event is never complete without a bit of education. Read up on the queer history of this popular spot: https://www.nyclgbtsites.org/site/beach-at-jacob-riis-park/ Unfortunately, there aren't many well-publicized gender-neutral restrooms in the Rockaway/Riis Beach area, but these are the closest we could find:- Sugar Bowl (15 Bedford Avenue, Breezy Point, New York 11697)- Rockaway Beach Bakery (87-10 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Far Rockaway, NY 11693)

when: July 14 @ 12pm - 6pm
where: The People's Beach at Jacob Riis Park, 157 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Queens, NY, 11694 (map)
