Summer Camp- Fab Lab UKULELE BUILDING- kids, laser cutting and engraving

A week long camp (4 days, Monday through Thursday) for the kids of all ages to take advantage of the equipment in the Fab Lab at Lake Michigan College.  Each participant will start with a ukulele "kit" which will include the parts of the ukulele as well as the strings.  We will guide each particpant through the motions of putting together the ukulele, decorating it, stringing the instrument as well as teaching you how to play the instrument.   The week's activities will include: Monday- learning how the lasers work, cutting out the front and back of the ukulele with different types of wood and learning Adobe Illustrator for decoration of the instrument Tuesday- participants will finish up decoration and construction of their ukulele Wednesday- Our luthier will teach each participant how to string the instrument and our first music lesson will start. Thursday - more lessons on how to play the ukulele and perhaps they'll learn a song as well :-) Participants should be at least 8 years old to participate within this camp. Proper attire is also needed. No open toed shoes or loose clothing. No “dangling” jewelry and all hair will need to be tied back. Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials.  Registration is limited.  Projects are subject to change based on material availability. The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow students to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters.
