Junior Naturalists

Give your middle schooler the summer of a lifetime! Instructors challenge young naturalists to use their observation skills and individual experiences as each discovers how plants, sustainability, and local ecosystems are part of everyday life. Using critical thinking and team collaboration, budding ecologists will learn to hunt edible weeds, identify local birds and mammals, trap insects and freshwater invertebrates, and so much more! The session concludes with our annual overnight campout at QBG! This is a four-week summer program. Junior Naturalists is for those entering grades 6 through 9 in Fall 2019. This program is from Mondays through Thursdays, 9am to 3pm Four weeks, July 8 through August 1: $700 Non-Member / $630 Member*  After-Care: 3 to 5:30pm, $25 per day  Overnight Campout: Friday, August 2 through Saturday, August 3 *Member discounts apply to Family-level members or above.  Registration opens Friday, January 18 at 10am. Junior Naturalists Frequently Asked Questions REFUND POLICY If you must cancel after registering, notify the Program Coordinator at 718-886-3800 x218 or [email protected] at least 10 full business days before the start of the program and the Garden will refund your fee, minus a $10 registration fee per child. Refunds for cancellations less than ten days prior to the start of the program will be issued only if a registrant from a waiting list will fill the space. No refunds or credits are issued after a garden program begins. Registrations are nontransferable. No discounts may be applied after your transaction is processed.   AFTER-CAMP CARE You may register your child for after-camp care up to ONE WEEK in advance of the date needed. Requests for care with less than a week’s notice may only be fulfilled if there are enough staff to maintain proper child-to-adult ratio.  DISCOUNTS A sibling discount of five percent is available for multiple children registered for Summer Children’s Garden and/or Junior Naturalists programs by using the code ‘SIBLING’ at checkout. Discount codes are applied when you are selecting the number of tickets for the program, by clicking the blue ‘Enter Promotional Code’ button at the top right-hand corner of the ticket selection pop-up. Discounts cannot be applied after your transaction is processed.   PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) occasionally photographs or films visitors and activities on site to support our mission in promotional media and materials, including print, online, broadcast, and social media. By attending this event, you grant permission to QBG use your and your child’s likeness in perpetuity, in all forms of print and digital media used to promote, publicize, or advertise the Garden, its activities, and programs. If you do not give QBG permission to take and use your image, you may opt out of photography and videography when you register. CANCELLATIONS In the case that an event is cancelled, you will be notified via email. GETTING TO QBG By public transportation, take the number 7 subway line to Main Street, the Long Island Rail Road (Port Washington line) to Main Street/Flushing, or the Q44-SBS or Q20 bus. By driving, please click here for more information. PARKING Parking is available year-round during Garden open hours at the Parking Garden, located at 42-80 Crommelin Street, Flushing, NY 11355. For drop-offs of participants, you may park at the Parking Garden for free during a 20-minute interval. Please notify the attendant of your child’s participation in Junior Naturalists upon arrival.
