Gate City Writes Summer Workshops

Gate City Writes is hosting TWO summer workshops for teachers in 2019. Sign up for one or both! July 8-12 we are partnering with The Poetry Project Institute to host a workshop about effectively using poetry and the art of spoken word in your classroom? Teachers will be taken through various exercises and activities as well as provided with tools to assist them in getting their students to grasp new concepts and see poetry and literacy from a new point of view. Teachers will learn how this art form can be used for positive change in their classrooms and communities to address problems, formulate solutions, battle peer pressure and expand the message of tolerance of diversity. July 15-18, Gate City Writes is hosting a four day workshop for classroom teachers, school administrators, and curriculum specialists of all levels and content areas who are dedicated to learning more about successful teaching practices related to writing.  The goals of the workshop are to: Create a collaborative learning environment in which educators of multiple grade levels and disciplines explore the teaching of writing with support from university faculty. Engage in the writing process with emphasis on research-based instructional practices, particularly incorporation of digital media tools and strategies for raising English Language Learners’ writing proficiency. Try out teaching of writing practices with young writers in a camp setting.
