Scribes Youth Writing Camp [Hugo House Session V] - Seattle, WA

Scribes summer writing camps provide an opportunity for Seattle-area youth to engage intensely with creative writing. Programming includes instruction from accomplished writers, field trips, writing activities, craft exercises, and exposure to a diverse range of genres, forms, and writers. This two-week session is open to students entering grades 9-12. Scribes will explore the treasures right at hand, using Hugo House as a home base for expeditions around Seattle. Together with instructors Ramon Isao and Imani Sims, Scribes will engage dynamically with creative writing and participate in quality programming that includes arts-driven field trips, writing activities, craft exercises, and exposure to a diverse range of genres, forms, and writers. The session will culminate in a community reading where Scribes will have the opportunity to share their work! All skill levels welcome. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS Ramon Isao is a recipient of the Tim McGinnis Award for fiction and his work has appeared in the Iowa Review, American Reader, Ninth Letter, and Hobart. His screenplays include ZMD, Junk, and Dead Body. Imani Sims is a stiletto-loving Seattle native who spun her first performance poem at the age of fourteen. She believes in the healing power of words and the transformational nuance of the human story. Her book (A)live Heart is forthcoming from Sibling Rivalry Press.
