Hello and thank you for your interest in Live Well Daily’s summer camp. My name is Desiree and I have been in the health and fitness field for 25+ years. Nine years ago I was given the opportunity to teach nutrition education at Cali Calmecac Language Academy in Windsor, California to 1st thru 3rd grade students. What at first made me nervous because I wondered how children would take to nutrition ed became one of my most favorite and fun jobs ever. I had that position for a few fun years before the school lost the grant money so I was moved to teach physical education to 4th and 5th grade. I am taking what I have learned over that last few years and making a fun summer camp that will incorporate physical movement, cooking skills and adding fun art into the day. Children exercise different that adults. It has to be fun. They love friendly competition and playing games that don't feel like they are actually working out. It’s brilliant. Exercise and laughter are the best combination. When it comes to nutrition it is somewhat the same. It must be fun and many times when they see other kids eating healthy foods, they are more likely to try them. The best peer pressure ;) eat more veggies. We will also be doing some garden art. Painting pots and rocks and learning about plants and seeds as well.
